There have been few reasons to celebrate in Ann Arbor over the three seasons since Michigan won the College Football Playoff national championship.
On Saturday, the Wolverines’ misery continued as they failed to reach the end zone when they needed it most and suffered their third loss of the season, a 13-6 overtime defeat to defending national champion Indiana.
Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in overtime, then the Hoosiers’ defense stopped Michigan on its ensuing possession to secure a 13-6 victory. The win also prevented Indiana from suffering its first two-game losing streak in three years under coach Curt Cignetti and marked the Hoosiers’ first victory at Michigan Stadium since 1967.

Tommy Carr started at quarterback for the Wolverines, while Bryce Underwood sat out. However, Carr, a freshman, didn’t fare as well as he did last week, when he came off the bench to help Michigan defeat Penn State.
Carr lost a fumble on an ill-advised pitch in the first quarter and was picked off in the second half. He took sacks in the second and third quarters that led to missed field goals, including a 32-yard kick after advancing to the Indiana 1.

Michigan reached the Hoosiers 3 in the final minute of regulation when Carr was sacked for a fourth time, leading to a 26-yard field goal as time expired.
Hoover struggled, too, until making a 21-yard pass to Brock Schott on the first snap of overtime that set up his touchdown.
Carr finished with 167 passing yards, an interception and a fumble. His brother, Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr, attended the game while his team had the weekend off. Indiana returns home next week to face Minnesota, while Michigan will look to rebound against Rutgers.
