Trump to attend Texas vs Tennessee in high-stakes college football showdown

President Donald Trump is attending No. 1 Texas' game against No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday, a White House official confirmed to OutKick. 

The game will take place at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee. Kickoff is set for noon ET. The White House reached out to the university on Monday to gauge the potential security, and the decision was made Tuesday night, according to sources with direct knowledge.

Trump's attendance was first reported by Clay Travis.

Trump has attended many major sporting events during his presidency. In January, he attended the College Football Playoff National Championship between Indiana and Miami at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Over the summer, he attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

Trump also attended the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in July, when he presented Spain with the trophy following their victory. 

ESPN's "College GameDay" will also be in Knoxville for the marquee matchup. Fans going to the game will likely be encouraged to get there early.

Both Texas and Tennessee enter the game coming off strong wins. Texas defeated UTSA 30-6 in Week 3, while Tennessee handily beat Kennesaw State 42-9. 

For Texas quarterback Arch Manning, he will be playing against his uncle Peyton Manning’s alma mater. The young quarterback has impressed this season, most notably during the team’s 24-23 comeback victory over Ohio State in Week 2. This season, Manning has completed 61.5% of his passes for 661 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

Manning will not only have to contend with a raucous Volunteers crowd but also take on a defense that has allowed just 14 points per game this season.
